An auto-responder is a predefined message, that is sent automatically as an answer to every single message received inside a mailbox with this option activated. The two most common examples for employing this option are automated email messages that one is briefly away from the office or that an order is received successfully. An auto-responder can also be used as a basic confirmation that the email has been received successfully, which is often something very important in enterprise e-mail correspondence. The message that is sent can contain more or less anything and can be modified according to the situations and exactly what the auto-responder will be used for.
